Árni Már Erlingsson
Árni Már Erlingsson (born 1984) resides and works in Reykjavik. He has held several solo exhibitions in Iceland and participated in numerous group exhibitions both domestically and internationally. Árni Már's paintings embody a restless movement and are characterized by restrained color palettes blending with interwoven forms, rooted in intricate sketches. The origins of his works can be traced back to the graffiti culture of the 1990s and hip-hop music, where he moved from one place to another, shaping his expression in the urban landscape. Similar to hip-hop music, which served as his inspiration (mixing elements of blues, jazz, and funk), his choice of style reflected the dynamism and increased empowerment.
Despite initially pursuing photography, he became early on involved in the printing industry (where he often combines various methods). However, a liberal approach has long been the guiding principle throughout his journey and various media, such as painting and sculpture. Árni Már is one of the founders of Gallerí Port on Laugavegur, which, since 2016, has established itself in the Icelandic art scene with progressive exhibitions and was recently voted as the best artist-run space in Reykjavik by the Grapevine magazine. Additionally, he is the founder of the art initiative Festisvöllur, which has organized numerous art events, printing workshops, concerts, and exhibitions worldwide.
