Hjörtur Matthías Skúlason was born in Patreksfjörður in 1979. He grew up on Rauðasandur in Vesturbyggð. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Reykjavík Academy of Fine Arts before starting his studies at the Iceland University of the Arts and graduated from there in 2013 with a BA degree in product design. Hjörtur's works are often characterized by natural materials where the past and the present go hand in hand.
