Harpa Árnadóttir
and translucency. Harpa's paintings often consist of layers of water-soluble paint and glue that eventually crack, forming landscape-like structures on the canvas. These formations evoke landscapes, intricate color gradients, and the interplay of shapes and shadows. In her watercolor works, the paper itself shapes the form along with layers of color, creating a misty veil over the image. The foundation of many of her works lies in the relationship between painting and literature, specifically the idea of viewing paintings as visual poetry. Harpa was born in 1965 in Bíldudalur but grew up in Ólafsvík on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. She turned to visual arts after completing a BA degree in history and literature at the University of Iceland. She studied at the School of Visual Arts and Crafts and later pursued advanced studies at Konsthogskolan Valand in Gothenburg. Harpa's works have been acquired and exhibited by museums across Europe and were featured at the sixth Nordic Biennial of Contemporary Art in Moss, Norway. In the summer of 2011, the publishing house Crymogea released a collection of texts and watercolor works by Harpa titled "Júní / June."
