Anna Rún Tryggvadóttir

Anna Rún Tryggvadóttir is a visual artist working with kinetic sculptural installations, material performances, as well as photography, drawing, and film. Tryggvadóttir explores power dynamics between agencies within the making and exhibiting of her work. Nurturing time-dependent behaviour of raw materials within staged settings, her works invite repeat engagement and speak to cyclical transitions. She uses the performative as a tool of entanglement between the materials, the mechanisms, the staging, and the viewer, bringing together all elements in an unfolding collective becoming. Tryggvadóttir carves out situations that nurture and challenge inter-relationships, particularly those underlying the human perspective towards the natural world. Her work has been presented in a number of group exhibitions, including Idavöllur 2021 at the Reykjavík Art Museum, Time Matter Remains 2021 at the Nordic House in Reykjavik, Earth Bodies at the Geology Museum UNAM Mexico City, Disko Arts Festival Greenland, and Cycle Music & Arts Festival Berlin. She had a solo exhibition, An Ode -poriferal phases, at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin in 2020, concluding a one-year artist residency. In 2021, Tryggvadóttir was awarded the Gudmunda Art Price for outstanding Icelandic Woman Artist.
