Áslaug Íris Katrín Friðjónsdóttir & Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir

In Harmony

The exhibition In Harmony leiðir Listval saman myndlistarmennina Áslaugu Írisi Katrínu Friðjónsdóttur og Ingunni Fjólu Ingþórsdóttur sem vinna báðar með sterka efniskennd og formhugsun í verkum sínum.

Áslaug Íris Katrín Friðjónsdóttir (b. 1981) graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York with an MFA degree in 2009 and obtained a BA degree in fine arts from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2006. Her focus lies in the interplay of form and material, with meaning emerging from their fusion. Drawing from nature's abstract repetitions, she employs rocks, minerals, linoleum, pencil, watercolor, and paint to emulate natural environments through abstract representation, resulting in her distinctive sculptural painting style.

Áslaug has established solo exhibitions and participated in group shows in museums and galleries across Europe, the United States, and Iceland. Notable mentions include Stellingar I Línulegar frásagnir at Berg Contemporary, A17 at the Reykjanes Art Museum, Skúlptúr Skúlptúr at Gerðarsafn, as well as solo exhibitions Arfur at Gallerí Þula, Echo at Listval Gallery, and Skil | Skjól at Neskirkja. Earlier this year, Áslaug participated in the art fair Market in Stockholm and a group exhibition at the Icelandic Embassy residence in Stockholm. Works by Áslaug are held in the collections of public art museums in Iceland.

Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir (b. 1976) graduated with a MA degree in Fine Art from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2017 and a BA degree in Fine Art from the same institution in 2007. She also holds a BA degree in Art History from the University of Aarhus, received in 2002. Ingunn works mainly in painting, weaving and installation. In her work, Ingunn has an inclination to extend the field of abstract painting into an open system, where the work is animated by the viewer and the space often through direct participation.

Ingunn´s work has been exhibited widely in galleries and museums in Iceland and abroad, including solo exhibitions at the National Gallery of Iceland, LÁ Art Museum and Cuxhavener Kunstvererin. Ingunn has participated in numerous group exhibitions including the Prague Biennale 5, Cluj Museum, Romenia and Kunstverein Springhornhof, Germany. During her career, Ingunn has received numerous grants and awards. In 2022 she was awarded the Guðmunda S. Kristinsdóttir Art Award for outstanding female artists.
