The new work is based on the original performance and installation Rainbow I (1983). Rainbow I was made just outside the boarder of Reykjavik. Since that time the city has grown and where the installation was there are now apartment houses.
Artist Rúrí (b. 1951) is a visual artist and known for outdoor works such as Regnbogann by the airport in Keflavík and Fyssa in Grasagarðurinn in Reykjavík, as well as installations such as Glerregn which was shown in the spring of 2001 at the National Gallery of Iceland and PARADÍS? – Hvenær? which was shown at Kjarvalsstaðir a few years ago. Her works are ideological in nature, but are presented with a variety of techniques, such as sculpture, installations, multimedia works, performances, books, films, video works, photographic works, sound works, mixed media, computerized and interactive works.Her artwork has been exhibited internationally, e.g. across Europe, the Americas and Asia. She represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 2003, where her work attracted a great deal of attention and received a great deal of international recognition. Rúrí has also received numerous awards and recognitions for his work.
