Steingrímur Eyfjörð (b. 1954) is among the foremost of his generation of Icelandic artists who emerged in the eighties of the last century. In his work, he utilizes a variety of media, including photography, drawings, videos, painting, sculpture, performance art, writing, and installations. His choice of subject matter is equally diverse; he draws inspiration from various directions such as folk tales, Icelandic sagas, fashion magazines, religion, superstition, critical theory, and various other contemporary topics. In his approach, these influences intersect at multiple points, giving rise to complex works that sometimes blur the boundaries but always provide a clear and unexpected perspective on the subjects he engages with. Steingrímur represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 2007.
