Steingrímur Gauti
Steingrímur Gauti Ingólfsson (b. 1986) earned a BA in Fine Arts from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2015 and has been active in the art scene since then. He has participated in group exhibitions in Iceland and abroad and held several solo exhibitions, including the show Chop Wood, Carry Water at Marguo Gallery in Paris. Gauti’s works can be found in public collections and private ownership across Europe, the United States, and Asia. Steingrímur Gauti lives and works in Reykjavík.
Steingrímur Gauti approaches painting with both care and lightness, separating the self and preconceived ideas from his daily creative process. His works play with fundamental questions about visual art and aesthetics, being both powerful and humble while not really addressing anything other than themselves and their visual impact on the viewer. Inaccuracy, repetition, and the rejection of critical thinking characterize his methods, and the outcome always reflects this, as the works dance on the line between the lyrical and the childish.
