Helgi Þórsson
Helgi Þórsson (b. 1975) completed a BFA in Fine Arts from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 2002, studied Sonology at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, and earned an MFA from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam in 2004. He has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions worldwide. Helgi's works are part of collections at the Reykjavík Art Museum, the University of Iceland, and various banks, as well as private collections.
Helgi is a co-founder and member of the artist-run art spaces Kunstschlager in Reykjavík and ABC Klubhuis in Antwerp. He has received awards and grants, including a nomination for the Gerrit Rietveld Prize Winner in 2002, winning the AIAS competition in Seoul, South Korea, in 2002, the Children's Choice Award from the Utrecht Art Museum in 2008, a nomination for the KunstRAI Prize in 2003, and a grant from the Dungal Art Fund in 2004.
