Dagur Benedikt Reynisson

Dagur Benedikt Reynisson has been working in filmmaking for over fourteen years, as well as working as a photographer before starting his studies at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2020 and graduating with a BA in 2023. He has a particular fondness for printmaking as a medium, where he uses techniques such as silkscreen printing to create optical illusion effects, where the moiré pattern makes the works come to life when the viewer moves. His works span both framed prints and installations made of glass, paper and wood. Dagur's works are diverse spectacles where colors, shapes and light play together and the viewer is an active participant. They are often made in traditional media, but presented in an unconventional way. Some of them are printed and framed with an emphasis on optical illusions, others take on the form of sculptures. Optical illusion is a term often used to describe his work; there is a play with what the eye sees and does not see, so that something seems to move even though it is still, or that the work changes in an inexplicable way. Currently, Dagur is working on new works within the same world of optical illusions, where he experiments with different surfaces and textures. At the same time, he is working on sculptural works that offer greater participation and experience for the viewer, even so that it is possible to enter the works and experience them with the body.
